Opportunities to Serve Others

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES  |  GET MORE CONNECTED WITH YOUR CHURCH FAMILY!

There are many ministry opportunities within and outside the church family. We encourage you to join in and become involved in the life of our church family.

Worship
  • Volunteer as an usher, greeter, or liturgist for a worship service.
  • Volunteer as an elevator operator during worship or other event.
  • Join the choir.
  • Provide flowers for worship.
  • Lead a “Children’s Time” during worship.
  • Share special music during worship.
  • Help set up and take down the fresh Christmas tree; help decorate and put away Christmas decorations.

Member Care
  • Provide support through prayer for individuals during difficult times and prayers of thanks during joyful times by becoming a member of the       e-mail Prayer Chain.
  • Be an ambassador of the church comforting members during hospitalizations or extended home recovery.
  • Bake meals to be delivered to members in need by our Deacon’s Meal Ministry.
  • Provide a connection to the church by sending cards in times of illness, celebration, or bereavement.
  • Take bulletins and worship recordings to our homebound members for a short visit, helping them remain connected with church.
  • Visit and develop a relationship with a homebound or elderly member.
  • Provide transportation to Sunday services or special events for those in need.
  • Contribute  loose change to “Noisy Can offerings” on fifth Sundays of the month; this offering supports our Congregational Care Fund.

Kolach Ministry

Help carry on the Czech tradition by being part of the baking team who prepares kolaches for special church events, holidays, etc.
  • Kolach Kare - Each time a baking is held, plates of delicious kolaches are delivered to members and friends who are homebound or have had recent illness or hospitalization.
  • Kolach Kamp - several times a year a Kolach Kamp is held to teach the art of baking this delicate pastry. Cost is $20.00 for dough and fillings, plus you'll receive a booklet of our recipes and take home kolaches.

Food Bank
  • Bring grocery items on the first Sunday of the month for the Linn Community Food Bank; or donate cash to support the Food Bank.
  • Volunteer to deliver collected food to the Food Bank.
Welcoming
  • Help new folks feel welcome, introduce them to other members, invite them to fellowship coffee, and talk to them about becoming a part of the ministries of First Presbyterian Church.
  • A welcome package of popcorn to any visitor to our church is part of the "Popcorn Ministry.”

Fellowship
  • Help set up and clean up for refreshments and coffee fellowship after worship, for special events, potlucks and luncheons
  • Bake treats for coffee hour
  • Cook food for funeral luncheons and potlucks
  • Serve as a volunteer on the Fellowship Committee

Children and Youth
  • Volunteer as a Sunday School teacher, substitute teacher or helper.
  • Help keep the activity/drawing clipboards organized and filled each week for children during worship.
  • Help sew costumes for pageant presentations.
  • Volunteer to help with summer Vacation Bible School.
  • Volunteer as a mentor to a confirmation youth.
  • Serve as a chaperone on a youth event.
  • Contribute food or bakery to Youth fund-raising projects.

Property
  • Serve on the Property Committee - help with grounds and building maintenance projects.
  • Participate in Church Work Days (cleaning gutters, raking leaves, weeding, interior cleaning, painting, washing windows, etc.)

Other Opportunities
  • Help in the office with newsletter or other mailings projects.
  • Assist with computer technology support for the church office.
  • Help make posters and prepare bulletin boards.
  • Take photos or videos of church events.
  • Assist with publicity for worship and special events (print, TV, radio, etc.)
  • Assist with the church website.
