Outreach in our Community
Our church is surrounded on four sides by a neighborhood of nature. We do have human neighbors (of course!) along with fields and forests, hills and streams.
We partner with our neighboring churches for ecumenical Thanksgiving worship and Good Friday worship. We also partner with them for annual the CROP Walk--a 3 mile fundraiser to bring clean drinking water around the world. Our neighbors who attend St John Lutheran Church in Ely and the United Methodist Church in Shueyville are our brothers and sisters in the faith.
Another important ministry and outreach of our congregation is through food. Donations of food and money to local food pantries is an important pillar of our mission. Also, we share through Kolach Kare and Kolach Kamps Learners are welcome to come and work along-side experienced bakers to learn the art of authentic Czech kolach baking, a rich tradition in our church.
For neighboring children, we provide a thought-filled and activity-filled Vacation Bible School in the summer time for pre-school through 5th grade. Call the church office (848-4624) for information.
Our Annual Tractor Ride is held in August. The tractor ride offers Christian fellowship with our friends and neighbors and salutes our church's agricultural heritage. Ride along seats are available to those who wish to on cushioned seats in wagons pulled by tractors. A morning lunch of kolaches & beverages and a noon meal with music is included in the day. Rides typically begin at 8 a.m. Must be 18 years of age to participate. Contact the church office for information for this year's ride.
Ely Fall Fest - The church participates at the Fall Fest in Ely, Iowa.
Our Chicken Noodle Soup and Kolach Supper is held yearly in October and the community is invited to enjoy a hearty meal and live musical entertainment. We also feature a country store with homemade bakery, crafts, and other items. 2019 Soup Supper is scheduled for Saturday October 5, 2019 4:00-7:00 p.m.
